Is it better to be a generalist or a specialist?

Hi friends,

I'm glad you want to hear more from me and I'm excited to share what I've been ruminating on this week. After all, you are what makes this meaningful.

  1. Did you know that there are close to 9000 programming languages as of 2022? I didn't know.
  2. Ever since getting into code, I wondered why the basic form of a language was referred to as vanilla CSS or vanilla JS. Turns out the term comes from the traditional standard flavor of vanilla ice cream. Standard, you say? If you ask me vanilla is underrated.
  3. Is it better to be a generalist or a specialist? This question has been asked much too often. The answer is the good old, it depends. But in this video by Big Think, David Epstein, puts forward the idea of divergent thinkers. People who are lateral thinkers, and who pull ideas from different fields to solve a problem.

4. Because many of you reading this spend over 12 hours staring at lines of code you sometimes can't even understand or countless unnamed layers in Photoshop, you should start taking care of your body. A Reddit post I saw recently recommended three mobility exercises,' hanging from anything to release the tension off your back, the Hindu pushup, and the bridge test. Good luck with the last one.

5.  Something to contemplate on.
